About Ferwyn
A small senior engineering team in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. We build the internal systems companies run on, and we have arranged the company so that distance is a fact to plan around rather than a thing to explain away.
The geography
Stated as fact, with the trade-off named in both directions.
- Why Kyrgyzstan
- Because it is where we live. Bishkek has a small engineering community with a long technical-education tradition behind it, and the people in it are not hard to find because everyone knows everyone.
- Why we are affordable
- Cost of living, not corner-cutting. A senior engineer here costs a fraction of one in a US city because rent and food cost a fraction, and that is the whole of the explanation.
- Why we say it upfront
- You will find out anyway. A company that buries its address has told you something about itself, and we would rather you learn it from the first screen than from a WHOIS lookup.
- What it costs you
- Distance. Nobody can be at your office tomorrow, and hardware work needs someone local. We plan around that instead of discovering it during an outage.
How the team works
Three habits that follow from being small and far away.
- Written first
- Decisions land in the tracker where you can re-read them. Across this distance a conversation nobody wrote down did not happen.
- Small and senior
- The people who design a system are the people who run it in production. Nobody is handed a specification to implement without knowing why.
- No account manager in between
- Every message you get is written by someone who works on the thing. Outside our hours you still reach a person — but not a proxy who filters what reaches us.
There are no photographs here
No team portraits, no office, no stock photography of anyone shaking hands. Headshots prove nothing about whether a system will still be running in two years, and we would rather spend your attention on the work.
What you can check instead: the case studies name their constraints, and our open-source work is public with its commit history and its rough edges intact.
